Právo (in Czech Right or Law) is a Czech daily newspaper, the third most sold in the country.[1]
It emerged following the Velvet Revolution, when some editors of the daily Rudé právo founded a new company unaffiliated with the Czechoslovak Communist Party but taking advantage of the existing reader base.[1] Today, the paper is not directly linked to any political party, but maintains a moderate left-wing stance[1] and tends to focus on social issues.[2]
It is owned by Borgis, a stock company that issues only Právo and its supplements,[1] owned for 91% by the paper's editor-in-chief, Zdeněk Porybný.[2]
It is the only Czech national daily that is not owned by a foreign company.[2] It has a circulation of 165,000 (2008),[1] making it second of serious Czech dailies.
