Tony Cann[2] [3] founded Promethean in Blackburn, Lancashire in 1997 with the launch of PandA software, the forerunner to Activstudio and Activprimary, a range of software for use in company presentations and meetings.
Graham Howe became Promethean’s chairman in July 2005, taking over from Tony Cann who is now a non-executive director. Graham Howe was previously co-founding director of Orange. Chief Executive Officer Jean-Yves Charlier joined Promethean in 2007 after being CEO of Colt Telecommunications.
Promethean has its head office in Blackburn (UK) and regional offices in Atlanta, USA, Paris, France, Essen, Germany, Hong Kong, China, Maidenhead, UK and Singapore. Promethean's main manufacturing unit is based in Shenzhen (China) and the company has product distribution facilities in Europe and the USA.
The ActivBoard 500 Pro was launched in 2010 with pen and touch technology and Windows 7. The ActivBoard 300 Pro Range with speakers can be used by two users. The ActivBoard 300 Range can be used by two people. The ActivBoard 100 Range is Promethean’s entry level IWB. Promethean’s Learner Response Systems allow students to use ActivBoard through a handheld device encouraging student engagement whilst allowing the teacher to monitor progress. Activote has six options, ActivExpression has a keyboard which allows students to respond in sentences and numbers, symbols, math equations, true/false and Likert Scales, ActivEngage allows students to respond from a keyboard.
Launched in 2007, Promethean Planet allows teachers to share lesson plans and ideas, and download additional resources to use with interactive whiteboards. Promethean provides training for teachers using its products delivered online or face-to-face.
