Prestonwood Country Club

Prestonwood Country Club is a private country club in Cary, North Carolina, a thriving community near Research Triangle Park (RTP) and conveniently located to Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU). Prestonwood's amenities include 54 holes of championship golf, nine tennis courts, a full-service fitness and aquatics center, award-winning dining and elegant event space for weddings and other special occasions. Prestonwood has played host to numerous national golf events including the SAS Championship and the Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic.

History

Prestonwood Country Club opened on Memorial Day in 1988 offering a pool and fitness center. Later that summer, the club debuted 27 holes of championship golf for their members and guests. In 1991, the club was purchased by private investors. As the economy moved out of the recession, the investors decided to expand Prestonwood's residential status by building more homes and roads. In time, Prestonwood Country Club has developed into a full residential community. By early 1996, the club had expanded to 54 holes of golf. In addition, it boasts a driving range, three practice greens and a short game area. The Club has rebuilt the pool and fitness center, which now consists of 8,000 square feet of space. In 2003, the club also added new tennis courts at a satellite location, as a result of an explosive tennis program that offers junior programs as well. In 2005, Prestonwood built a 60,000-square-foot addition to their Clubhouse which consists of a Grand Ballroom, the Red Fox, and Men’s Locker Room. Other additions included a renovated golf pro shop, ladies locker room and card room. [1].

Their Full Golf membership affords members full privileges of the club including access to golf, tennis, swimming & fitness facilities, kids club services as well as dining services for each individual in the member's immediate family.

Facilities

Golf: Prestonwood Country Club is the only private club in the area to boast 54 holes of championship golf. All three courses were designed by Tom Jackson by have been recently renovated green complexes by Jack Nicklaus protege Rick Robbins. Prestonwood also has a new state-of-the-art indoor Golf Learning Facility featuring interior and exterior hitting bays with video monitoring capabilities and the latest equipment in golf training aid.
Fairways: Opened in January 1995 (renovations completed Sept. 2010) . The course yardage is 6,475 with a Rating/Slope of 71.2/134.
Meadows: Opened in August 1988 (renovations completed Sept. 2009). The course yardage is 7,108 with a Rating/ Slope of 74.6/138.
Highlands: Opened in January 1993 (renovations completed Sept. 2011). The course yardage is 7,082 with a Rating/ Slope 74.4/138.

In addition, it has a driving range, three practice greens, and a short game area. The club utilizes a full service golf pro shop with five PGA Golf Class A professionals and three assistant professionals. Prestonwood offers golf associations for the whole family with weekly interclub competition and is the home course to 41 juniors who have received partial or full collegiate golf scholarships.

Events

Prestonwood Country Club is the current host of PGA TOUR Champions Tour SAS Championship.

SAS Championship: The SAS Championship is a Champions Tour event that has been hosted by Prestonwood Country Club since 2001. The course plays at about 7,177 yards and is a mix of the Highlands and Meadows courses.[3]
Past Champions Include:

Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic: This tournament, which was named after the late Jim Valvano, was started to support cancer. It was played at Prestonwood Country Club for 13 years starting in 1994. While at Prestonwood the tournament raised over $12 million and drew in celebrities as big as Michael Jordan, Bob Costas, and Kevin Costner. Due to a scheduling conflict, the tournament was moved to the Pinehurst area.[5]
