Prendergast
Prendergast (Irish: de Priondárgas) is a British name of Welsh/Norman origin. The name derives from the 12th century Norman Knight Maurice de Prendergast who took his name from the Prendergast Parish in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Wales into Leinster. After establishing himself in the Kingdom of Leinster, de Prendergast's descendants proliferated there, and in other parts of Ireland.
The name remains primarily distributed in and around the Dublin and Wicklow areas. The Prendergasts remained among the gentry in Waterford until as late as the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland in the 17th Century. Variants include Pendergast, Pender, Prender, and Prenderville.
