Precious Metal: Decibel Presents the Stories Behind 25 Extreme Metal Masterpieces is a non-fiction book that was released on July 14, 2009 by Da Capo Press that chronicles the creation of 25 extreme metal albums as told by writers from Decibel magazine. Although all but one feature was previously published in the magazine, each chapter is greatly expanded from their original print run of 6000 words.[1] The book was edited by Decibel editor-in-chief Albert Mudrian.

The introduction of Precious Metal describes how the chapters are compiled: "Take a classic extreme metal record (as determined by our staff) released at least five years ago, track down and interview every band member who played on it, and present them questions exclusively about the writing, recording, touring and overall impact of said album."[2]
