PowerCity

Power City is an Irish electrical retailer of consumer and electronic goods with branches in Blanchardstown, Coolock, Tallaght, Finglas, Fonthill, Sallynoggin, Drogheda and Bray. The Drogheda store, was opened in September 2006, the second outside Dublin.[1]

Their stores sell, along with other manufacturers, badge-engineered "own brand" products branded as "ZX". This is similar to other electronics retailers such as those owned by DSG International.

PowerCity promotes the sale of a wide range of electrical goods and accessories at discount prices. They were satirised on Bull Island for their red and white striped shirts and red v-neck jumpers worn by employees. According to the Irish Top 1000 Companies database [1], in 2003 the company made a profit of €8.4 million on a turnover of €87 million[2] with a staff of 180.

Competitors

Main Irish market competitors include D.I.D. Electrical, Currys, Harvey Norman and Sony Centre.

The market leader in Ireland with a total of 28 stores is DSG International, who operate the Currys, Dixons and PC World brands. [3]
