Poulithra is located south of Argos, SSW of Athens, north of Monemvasia, northeast of Sparta and southeast of Tripoli.
The poet Kostas Ouranis originates from Poulithra. In Poulithra the ancient city of Polichne is located, which was mentioned by the historian Pausanias in his travels. An ancient castle and Byzantine walls are to be found on the hill.
In 1997, the ex-community (now a village and a municipal district) became part of the newly formed municipality of Leonidio.
