Port Wentworth is a city in Chatham County, Georgia, USA. The population was 5,359 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Port Wentworth is located at .[3] Within the city limits are the localities of Meinhard and Monteith.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 16.5 square miles (43 km2), of which, 16.5 square miles (43 km2) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) of it (0.18%) is water.
On Thursday, February 7, 2008, an explosion at the historic Dixie Crystals sugar plant, established in 1916 on Oxnard Drive, killed 14 people and injured at least 40 others. The victims ranged in age from 18 to 56. This horrific blast could be heard as far away as Levy, South Carolina, where it shook house walls. The accident brought Port Wentworth national and international notice, and was widely reported in European and Asian media.
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 3,276 people, 1,285 households, and 896 families residing in the city. The population density was 199.2 people per square mile (76.9/km²). There were 1,377 housing units at an average density of 83.7 per square mile (32.3/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 82.63% White, 14.35% African American, 0.49% Native American, 1.04% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.76% from other races, and 0.70% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.08% of the population.
There were 1,285 households out of which 27.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.7% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.2% were non-families. 26.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the city the population was spread out with 21.5% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 18.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 95.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.8 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $42,241, and the median income for a family was $48,425. Males had a median income of $37,299 versus $23,244 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,919. About 10.0% of families and 11.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 21.3% of those under age 18 and 6.6% of those age 65 or over.
