Release

Reception

The film opened in a few centres across Chennai, Tamil Nadu to an average opening. The film which grossed Rs. 5,70,286 in the opening weekend in Chennai[3] became a failure at the box-office.

Reviews

Upon release, the film generally received mixed reviews. Rediff claimed the movie was to be a "dud" citing that "post intermission, though, everything goes haywire, so the twist's impact is lost". It also criticized the camerawork and the director, courtesy D Bhaskar Rao and B. saroj Kumar citing that "the entire movie is dark, gloomy and almost impossible to see, presumably the result of the director's wish to accentuate the hero's moods".[4]

In terms of performances, Kishore was unanimously praised with Rediff claiming that he "is neat as the taciturn, slick hero who lives life on his own terms -- the revelation about him comes as a complete surprise". Whilst Sathyan does very well, "producing genuine laughs" and Smitha "doesn't have much to do" but Sampath Raj and his cohorts "bore you to tears...and this particular Ravana offers no challenge and is hopeless. Since he occupies the second half of the film, he destroys that part as well". [4]
