Pleurococcus is a genus of algae, in the family Chaetophoraceae.[1] Purported to be the most abundant creature on the planet at ten trillion trillion. They can be found growing on moist, dark patches of trees, rocks and soil. They can be found alone or in bunches together forming a slimy layer. They are spherical in shape with a thick cell wall to protect themselves against excessive water loss.
