Piranshahr (Persian: پيرانشهر is a city in and the capital of Piranshahr County in southwestern West Azerbaijan Province in northwestern Iran. At the 2012 census, its population was 115.065.[1] [2]

The inhabitants of city of Piranshahr are referred to as Piranshahri's, but this term is also sometimes applied to those people who live in the neighboring communities.

The city of Piranshahr produces a full range of over 100 different granite materials in a variety of colours and textures.

The city is the birthplace of the famous Iranian goalkeeper Nasser Hejazi. [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]

Demographics

The city's inhabitants are adherents of the Shafiite branch of Sunni Islam. A small percent of Twelver Shia Muslim, Christian and Jewish faith also coexists with the mainstream religion in the city.

According to the Piranshahr's organization for Civil Registration the highest average annual growth rate in the province is in Piranshahr [1].
