Piramals
The Piramals are a Mumbai-based business family.
The Piramals are originally from Bagar, Rajasthan.
Today, the family operates as three distinct business entities. The group came into existence by Gopalkrishna Piramal.
- The late eldest son Ashok Piramal's family runs the Ashok Piramal Group, who's flagship company is Peninsula Land Limited. Ashok had married to Urvi Piramal. They got three sons Harsh Piramal, Rajeev Piramal and Nandan Piramal. They manage real estate, textile, automobile and retail (Pyramid Retail). Ashok died in 1984.
- Second son Dilip Piramal runs VIP Industries since 1982-83, which manufactures VIP Bags. His wife is renowned media personality Gita Piramal. She is the founder and managing editor of the management magazine The Smart Manager. They have two daughters, Aparna Piramal and Radhika Piramal.
- Youngest son Ajay Piramal is one of India's leading thought leaders and heads the Piramal Group. The Piramal Group has interests in healthcare [Piramal Healthcare], financial services [PHL Finance P Ltd], real estate [Indiareit and Piramal Realty] and glass packaging [Piramal Glass]. The flagship company is Piramal Healthcare [former [Nicholas Piramal]]. His wife Dr.Swati Piramal was the first woman to become the President of ASSOCHAM, a significant chamber of commerce. She has played a major role in guiding the company's business, and is particularly interested research & developement side of the business. They have a daughter, Nandini Piramal, and a son, Anand Piramal, both have taken up senior management portfolios in the Group.
