Pieterlen (French: Perles) is a municipality in the Biel/Bienne administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.
Pieterlen lies at the foot of the Jura mountains in the Bernese Seeland.

Pieterlen has an area of 8.3 km2 (3.2 sq mi). Of this area, 31.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while 48.2% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 18.8% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (1.3%) is non-productive (rivers or glaciers).[3]
Pieterlen has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 3,543.[1] As of 2007[update], 19.3% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 1.7%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (86.3%), with French being second most common ( 3.5%) and Albanian being third ( 2.9%).

In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 36.3% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (19.6%), the FDP (18.7%) and the local small left-wing parties (7.8%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000[update]) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 22.5% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 59.2% and the seniors (over 64 years old) make up 18.2%. In Pieterlen about 69% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).
Pieterlen has an unemployment rate of 1.88%. As of 2005[update], there were 53 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 14 businesses involved in this sector. 554 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 45 businesses in this sector. 530 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 78 businesses in this sector.[3]
