Phil Maymin is an Assistant Professor of Finance and Risk Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of New York University. He was the 2006 Libertarian candidate for U.S. House of Representatives from Connecticut's 4th congressional district.

Maymin graduated from Harvard University in 1997 where he earned a B.A. in computer science and an M.S. in applied mathematics in 3 and a half years.
In December, 2007, he graduated with a PhD. in Finance from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. His dissertation was entitled "Self-Imposed Limits to Arbitrage.".
In 2006, Phil Maymin ran as the Libertarian candidate against incumbent Republican Representative Christopher Shays and two-time Democratic challenger Diane Farrell. The three of them debated each other seven times (YouTube highlights).
Maymin was the subject of hundreds of newspaper articles and had dozens of radio appearances, including national ones on XM Satellite Radio.[1] Maymin appeared on national live television twice, once with Tucker Carlson (video) and once on MSNBC News Live with David Shuster (video).
FactCheck.org called Maymin's I Approve This Massage campaign ad the "Best Send-up of an Ineffective Federal Mandate."
On November 7, 2006, Phil Maymin received about 1.5% of the total votes, more than half of the margin separating Shays and Farrell.[2]
Maymin and his campaign were the subject of a Washington Post documentary called "Running for a Change".
Phil Maymin is a Policy Scholar for the Yankee Institute for Public Policy, a columnist for the Fairfield County Weekly, an actor, and a Justice of the Peace in Greenwich, Connecticut.[3] He has also been a portfolio manager at Long-Term Capital Management, Ellington Management Group, and a hedge fund he co-founded with his father, Maymin Capital Management.[4]
