The Phaphra are a small tribe of Mughal status, occupying a compact area of about 25 square miles (65 km2) at the foot of the Salt Range, east of Pind Dadan Khan in Jhelum District in Pakistan.

The tribe claims to be Mughals, but British ethnographers writing at the beginning of the 20th century expressed doubts.[1] According to their tradition, the tribe came from the direction of Faridkot in Punjab, and settled in the district as traders and agriculturists. The tribe claims descent from a Phaphra, who settled in the district in the 15th century. They claim that the came with king Babur of the great Mughal Empire, which is why others called them [Mughal Phaphra's]. Some of them also claim that they are descendants of King Taimor and have a complete record tree. The Phaphra Sheikh basically from Pindi Bhattian after migration from the village Phaphra in eighteen century.
The main Mughals Phaphra villages are Kot Phaphra, Kaslian, Dhudi Phahpra, Sadowal, Warra Phaphra, Samanwal, Saowall, Rawal and Ghareebwal, all in Pind Dadan Khan Tehsil of Jhelum District. Mohra Phaphra is a lone Phaphra village in Rawalpindi District. Some of the inhabitants of Phaphra clan villages are known with their own identity; for example, people from Dhudi Phaphra are known as Dhudi and people from Sadowal are known as Sadowalia.
There is only Boys' High School in the area which is located at village Samanwal. (Govt High School Samanwal)
In MALAKWAL Mandi Bahauddin Districtthe villages of Phaphra, Kapur,Chak No 29,chak No.9 ( Shumali Abadi ) and Nurpur Piran, are also held by the Phaphra.
Vehari The village of Phaphara,Chack number 178/w.b.Haji Muhammad Hayyat Mughal Phaphra. His family shift in Chack no 178/w.b (Tehsil mailsi) fram kapur(Mandi Bahauddin).The reason for migration is known as the land held by this family in Mailsi.
Village Dhudi Phaphra has always been a big and central villag of Phaphra Clan. Khan Bahdur Ch Sardar Khan C.I.E from Dhudh Phaphra was a very prominent figure of salt range in the beginning of 20th century. He held the title of Khan Bahdur and C.I.E . He died in late 1920s and his son Ch Muhammad Ali Khan took over his place. He was elected continuously 22 years as a member of District Board Jhelum. He was close of ally of Ch Iltaf Hussain former Governore of Punjab. He died in early years of 1980s. His family moved to Chak No. 29 Tehsil Malakwal District Mandi Bahauddin. The reason for migration is known as the land held by this family in Chak 29 is more fertile than their land in Salt Range.

Village Ghareebwal have many great people born here.CH Ghulam Muhammad (Late)Great leader of Phaprah. General CA Majeed (Late) and D F O Haji Abdurehman (Late). Village Jotana in thesil pind dadan khan has also a huge population of Phaphra family but unfortunately it is not considered in Phaphra
Nearly 50% population of Jotana is of Phaphra family and it is a big casts in the village.
