Persiba Balikpapan
Persiba, an acronym for Persatuan Sepak Bola Indonesia Balikpapan is an Indonesian football club based in Balikpapan, Indonesia. In media, the tautology Persiba Balikpapan is often used and to distinguish the club with another club with the same acronym, Persiba Bantul.
Beruang Madu (Fertile Bear) is the club's nickname, taken from the city mascot of Balikpapan. Another nickname given is Selicin Minyak (slippery as oil) because Balikpapan is the center for oil and gas industry of Indonesia.
Persiba home stadium is Persiba Stadium with 15,000 capacity and terrible condition.[2] Persiba plays in the Indonesia Super League, the top rank football competition in Indonesia.
Currently, Mijo Dadic (defender) holds captaincy ban for Persiba.
Supporters
Persiba supporters are known as PFC or Persiba Fans Club.[2] Another group of Persiba fans club claims themselves as Balistik or Balikpapan Supporter Fanatik. Balistik are members of East Kalimantan Supporter Association (Asosiasi Supporter Kalimantan Timur) which covers all football fans throughout East Kalimantan region. both are combined into Gasper.

Rivalries
Persiba Balikpapan have a very tough competitor in the League of Persisam Putra Samarinda. Since the beginning of the meeting of the league, this game usually called East Borneo derby. This game is also often called the East Borneo Derby.

Notable former players
Persiba has a strong youth training program. It has its own amateur football league in Balikpapan which runs annually. The amateur league has been able to yield many Persiba key players in the past. Some notable past Persiba players are Edy Simon, Johny Rining (both were past Indonesia national team defenders in the 80s), Agus Waluyo (past Indonesia goalkeeper), Bima Sakti (past Indonesia national team midfielder and captain in 1990s), Ponaryo Astaman (former Indonesia national team captain) and T.A. Musafri.
