Peringanadu is a small village in Pathanamthitta district Kerala state, India.[1] It is known by the presence of Peringanadu Trichenda Mangalam Mahadeva Temple.

Culture

Peringanadu is a small village located near Adoor. the village boasts of secular feeling entrenched in its soul. it is expressed through various fesivals and celebrations, prominent among them are ulsavam in the month of march-april and also the christian festivals of St Gregorios and St George. The very famous Shiva Temple, Peringanadu Trichenda Mangalam Mahadeva Temple is located here. The Temple is famous for its 'Kettu Kazhcha' during the annual festival. Kettu Kazhcha is the procession of huge chariot(thaeru) and bull(Kaala) made of wood and cloth by groups belonging to different areas(karaa).

Famous Malayalam satirist E.V. Krishnapillai lived in Peringanad. Adoor Bhasi, a famous comedian in Malayalam Cinema, is the son of E.V. Krishna Pillai.

Munshi Paramu Pillai ( Malayalam writer) is also belongs to Peringanad.

Peringanad Marth Shmooni Orthodox Valiya Palli, established in 1850AD is the first church in India in the name of Marth Shmooni (St. Shmuni), her Seven Children and their teacher Mar Eliazer (St. Eliazer).

The sister church St Gregorious Orthodox Church also adds beauty to this place. it enriches the spirituality of the region and act as a source of blessing to one and all. The St George youth movement of this church organizes a variety of charity programs which benefits all strata of society. It is therefore called the golden lamp of Peringanad.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, Peringanadu had a population of 20785 with 9894 males and 10891 females.[1]
