Penagalur or Penagaluru is a village and a mandal in Kadapa district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India.[1]

History

Penagalur was once called as Pedakallur by the Cholas who ruled South India. Here a temple for Lord Krishna was constructed by Vijayanagara kings in 1490 A.D. One ancient temple of Lord Siva also appears in the village. The village has a big tank constructed 200 years ago, which is located on the west side of the village.

Penagalur was once called as Pedakallur ruled by the Eastern Cholas who ruled South India. Once upon a time this area consists of Big Stones. So, the village Was named after with Pedakallur. A river, called Cheyyeru, flows 2 km. from the main village and it supplies water for a big tank, constructed 300 years ago, located West side of the village. On the east side of the tank (Kanyakala Cheruvu) has a temple for Lord Krishna was constructed by Vijayanagara kings in 1490 A.D. Every year a Ten-Day Devotional Ceremony (Tirunalla) is conducted for the God Lard Krishna in the Month Jestha Masam One ancient temple of Lord Siva also appears in the North direction of the village.This temple was constructed approximately before 2000 yrs. This village has about 500 Hectares of Agriculture land. Paddy is the main crop, Oil seeds, Mango, Maize, Sugar cane are the other crops abundantly grown in the fields. All the people in the village are Hindus and consists of 16 Castes and Sub-Castes. In history, some freedom fighters and Poets born in this village. Pidatala chinna Venkata Subbaiah a rich land lord and poet some great books. Once, This village has hundreds of Brahmin Families and believed that they had some great chanting powers. Now no. of Enganiers, lawyers, Teachers and other employees have been offering their services in India and abroad
