Pekatahi

Pekatahi is a small locality south of Whakatane in the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand's North Island. The Whakatane River passes through Pekatahi as it flows northwards to its mouth on the Pacific Ocean. State Highway 2 passes through the locality on its route between Awakeri and Taneatua, as does the currently mothballed Taneatua Branch railway (formerly part of the East Coast Main Trunk Railway, which it now meets northwest of Edgecumbe at Hawkens Junction). Pekatahi is notable as being one of the few remaining locations of a road-rail bridge in New Zealand, as the highway and railway share a narrow bridge across the Whakatane River.
