Payyappaddy is a small village in Puthuppally panchayat. Payyappaddy means "Slowly Sung" in Malayalam. There are no legends behind this name.

This small village is famous for Sri Lakshmaswamy Temple, Vennimala&Sree Dharmasastha temple Malakunnam. St. Thomas Orthodox Church Vellukutta is another famous church here.

Aaraattuchira, Kochumattam, Vennimala, Cheramkulam, Malakunnu, Mundiyakkal, Akkamkunnu etc. are the nearby small villages and considered as a part of it. The place is mainly hilly, contains small streams and ponds. Rubber, Banana, Pepper are main agriculture products.

Tourist information

Vennimala Temple is situated on top of a hill(1500 ft high from sea level) and the view from the hill is very beautiful. It is fun to cycle up the hill or trek to the top of the hill.

There is a cave near the temple and there are lot of local stories about the cave and its historical importance.

Public Buses are available to Payyappady from Kottayam through Puthuppally every 15 mins. The journey is 10 km and take 30 mins. You can trek to the Vennimala temple from Payyappaddy or take an Auto from Payyappaddy Junction.
