Pavlos Giannakopoulos (Greek: Παύλος Γιαννακόπουλος; born 1933) is a Greek businessman.
Along with his brother Thanassis Giannakopoulos, he's the co-owner of pharmaceutical corporation Vianex, which was originally founded in 1924 by their father Dimitrios Giannakopoulos as a small local import and distribution firm. Vianex currently manufactures and markets, in Greece and elsewhere, a variety of products, in collaboration with leading international firms.[1] Its product turnover was €249.7 million in 2005.[2] In 2006, Thanassis' personal fortune was estimated to be €400 million, one half of the Giannakopoulos brothers' €800 million business empire.
Since 1987, the Giannakopoulos brothers own Panathinaikos' basketball, volleyball and all amateur sports teams, from athletics to water polo. Their involvement with Panathinaikos' basketball team their greatest successes, in both domestic and European competitions. Pavlos is also the President of the basketball club. As of 2011, Panathinaikos has won 13 out of the last 14 Greek Basketball Championships (excluding 2001-02), and the European Championship in 1996, 2000, 2002, 2007, 2009 and 2011.[3] The club, during that time, has featured some of the best players of Greece, along with players from abroad, such as ex-NBAers Dominique Wilkins and Byron Scott, or European stars such as Dejan Bodiroga, Nikos Galis, Panagiotis Giannakis, Stojan Vranković.
The basketball section of the club alone had a reported budget of €30 million in 2008.
