Patterson is a city in Madison County, Iowa, United States. The population was 126 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Des Moines–West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area.

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 126 people, 58 households, and 33 families residing in the city. The population density was 635.1 people per square mile (243.2/km2). There were 67 housing units at an average density of 337.7 per square mile (129.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 100.00% White.
There were 58 households out of which 20.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.7% were married couples living together, 3.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.4% were non-families. 27.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.17 and the average family size was 2.74.
In the city the population was spread out with 16.7% under the age of 18, 12.7% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 34.1% from 45 to 64, and 11.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 129.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 118.8 males.
