The main occupation here is agriculture. Around 10 Peanut oil mills are also present at Patlur Nallroad.Patlur Nallroad(4 roads) is junction of four Roads namely Bhavani Road,Anthiyur Road,Mettur Road& VelliTiruppur Road.Patlur was under Anthiyur Assembly Constituency till year 2006 and now it comes under Bhavani Assembly Constituency from 2011 TN assembly elections.

Main Festivals Celebrated

Sri Kariyakaliamman Kundam Festival: This Amman kundam Annual festival is being celebrated in the Tamil month of 'Aani'every year.Temple is located in the northern side of Patlur.Lot of devotees and villagers from neighboring places will participate massively.This is 15 days festival.This festival starts with 'Poochatu' on fine Wednesday(First day).15th day Wednesday morning,devotees will walk on the fire (Poo midhithal:Walking over fire)in front of deity Amman and Worship the Goddess Sri Kariya Kaliamman.It is an electrifying experience for the observer when even children and handicapped people walk on the burning coal having implicit faith on the Goddess.60 Feet Kundam is fired from previous day night with lot of dedication and spirituality. Special Abishekam and Pooja will be performed on that day.16th day Thursday,Festival conclude with 'Manjal Neerattu'.Lot of Entertaining and Spiritual Programmes like Dramas,Karakattam,Speeches,Dance etc..are organised during these days by village public and social workers. Sri Muthumariamman Festival: MuthuMariamman temple situated in Nathagattu Thottam ,western side of Patlur.This is 15 days Annual festival and is being celebrated in the Tamil month of 'Panguni' every year.Festival starts with 'Poochatu' on Wednesday(First Day).14th day Tuesday,Holy water from the River Cauvery is brought to temple and poured to the Goddess Sri Muthumari.15th day Wednesday morning,Pongal is offered to Amman and Abishekam and special pooja is performed. Mavalukku procession (People will carry raw rice flour paste and flowers on a plate on their head)will take place in same day evening with traditional dance. Entertaining programmes are organised by Friends in the night. Sri Karumalai Andavar Panguni Uthiram Festival: Temple is located in the middle of Patlur.This is 2 days Annual festival and is being celebrated on 'Panguni Uthiram day'of every year.On Uthiram day ,Holy water from the River Cauvery is brought and poured to the God Rakkiannasamy(Murugan alias Karumalaiandavar).Special pooja and Abishekam is performed .Annadhanam is offered to all the devotees in the evening.Manchal Neerattu is played on the second day with Deity Karumalaiandavar Kavadi Procession.Second day Fire Works (Vanavedikkai)is notable event after "Kathikaluvudhal(Rincing Deity's Knife)".Special pooja and Thalattu also performed in the night.Lot of devotees from neighboring villages will participate in this festival.

Sri Semmuneeswarar Festival: Semmuneeswarar(also called Semmunichamy) temple is situated at Poosariyur of Patlur Village(5KM far).This is 30 days Annual festival and is being celebrated in the Tamil month of 'Chithirai' starting from first Friday of the Tamil month every year.Mudhal Poojai(First Pooja)is celebrated after 15 day (Friday).This day the goat sacrifice (Kavukutti)is being conducted for more than 200 years as part of the fulfillment of vows to the presiding deity of Sri Semmuneeswarar temple by the devotees.[3],.[4]

Lot of People from Patlur, Vellitirupur,Poonachi, Anthiyur , Bhavani,Erode,Salem and nearby villages come to the temple , stand in queue, and worship the God Semmunichamy and Goddess Eswari,God Mannatheeswarar,Sri Vamuni ,Sri Poomuni,Sri Vedamuni .Hair offering(Mudi Kannikkai) also performed. Maru Poojai (Second Pooja) is celebrated on 30th day Friday.Special poojas and Abishekam is performed on these days.Lot of shops and entertainment arrangements are organised.Special Mattu Santhai( Cattle Market)is organised for last 3 days (Friday-Sunday)of the festival.33th day Monday Car festival (Therottam) is celebrated.Deity Car will return from Temple to Poosariyur Madappalliiyarai.Lot of local Devotees will participate and worship the God and Goddess.Local Administration will ply lot of buses from Anthiyur and Bhavani for facilitating the devotees to visit to the temple during festival days.Around 50,000 people witness this festival every year.Also every New Moon day or every Friday, scores of mentally ill people come to the temple and the priests hit their heads with neem leaves to ward off the evil spirits.

Pradosham Vazhipadu Sri Vakeeswarar ,a Shiva temple is located on the Velli Thiruppur Main Road at Patlur .Every fortnightly Pradosam is celebrated by a team of devotees .Special pooja is offered to Sri Nandheeswarar( The Bull of Lord Shiva). It is believed that all the Devas & Gods are assembled in the Shiva temples during Pradosham time. Further, the first pradosham was on a Saturday & hence "Sani Pradosham" is even more auspicious one.An auspicious day dedicated to Lord Shiva, Pradosham falls on the 13th day (Trayodashi) of the lunar fortnight (Paksha). Pradosham Viratam occurs during the two different phases of the moon (waxing and waning) as per the traditional Hindu lunar calendar. A Pradosham falling on a Monday is called Soma Pradosham or Chandra Pradosham, on a Tuesday is known as Bhauma Pradosham, and on a Saturday is called Shani Pradosham. Among all the Pradosham viratam, the Soma Pradosham and Shani Pradosham are the most significant one observed by most devotees. The fast is observed from sunrise until sunset and is considered to be highly beneficial.[5]
