Parodontidae is a family of fresh water fish of the order Characiformes.[1] There are three genera including about 21 species, though there are several undescribed species.[1] These fish are generally benthic and live in mountain streams of eastern Panama and South America[1] It was formerly considered a subfamily of the family Hemiodontidae.[1]
