Parastegophilus is a genus of catfishes (order Siluriformes) of the family Trichomycteridae. It includes two species, P. maculatus and P. paulensis.[1] P. maculatus origiantes from the lower Paraná and Uruguay River basins in Argentina while P. paulensis is from the upper Paraná River basin in Brazil.[1] Parastegophilus species grow to about 5.4–6.0 centimetres (2.1–2.4 in) in length.[2][3] P. maculatus enters the gill chamber of Luciopimelodus pati and feeds on the gills.[2]
