The beginning of the riots was at a road roko at Five Point Junction, Paramakudi on 10 September 2011 demanding the release of Tamizhaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) leader John Pandian who was on detention while heading to the town on the 54th death anniversary of Immanuvel Devendrar, a Dalit leader. During the violence erupted during the protests,it is believed that scores of policemen were injured and a number of government vehicles including a riot control vehicle were set on fire by the agitators. The police sources are telling that to disperse the mob, the police fired bullets which caused death of seven people.[1] But the fact finding report submitted by the retired judge tells that the police was mis-used by caste based officials.All the political parties except AIADMK in tamilnadu accusess the Tamil Nadu police while the party is favouring TN police.The chief minister of the state J. Jayalalithaa tells that it was done to ensure law enforcement.But the fact finding report tells that the DRO,District collector,DIG of police,police SP not answered any questions asked by the fact finding commission reveals that the incident was illegal.
