Name

Despite the word "Law" in the name, the School offers a variety of education programmes and courses. Because of the new faculties and divisions opened, the School would like to change its name.[4]

History

The Bratislava School of Law was founded in 2004 by a non-profit organisation, Bratislavská akademická spoločnosť (English: Bratislava Academic Society). The establishment of the School is often credited to Ján Čarnogurský, a former Slovak prime minister, and member of the Academic Society.[5] It was founded as the 28th College in Slovakia and the fourth private college.[6]

Faculties and Institutes

As of July 2007 the School has four Faculties:

Faculty of Law

The Faculty of Law was founded in 2004: it is the School's oldest faculty. It offers courses in law, especially focusing on international and European law. Teaching is bilingual and multilingual.[7] After three years of study students may attain the Bachelor's degree, or after two more years the Master of Laws degree.

The Faculty is a member of the international ERASMUS programme and the academic programme ELPIS.[8] The Dean of the Faculty is the former Chief Commander of the Slovak Police Jaroslav Ivor.[9] The main building of the Faculty of Law is on Tomášikova street in Ružinov, Bratislava. The building was opened on September 26, 2006.[10] The Faculty also has a seat in Brno.

Faculty of Economics and Business

The Faculty of Economics and Business (abbreviated as "FEP") was founded in July 2005.[11] There are three levels of study: Bachelor level, Engineer level and Postgraduate level. The Dean of the Faculty is Milan Rajňák.[12] The Faculty's building is located on Tematínska Street in Petržalka, Bratislava.[11]

Faculty of Mass Media

The Faculty of Mass Media was founded in February 2007. It offers courses in mass-media and marketing communication.[13] The Faculty is newly-opened for the 2007/08 academic year.

Faculty of Informatics

The Faculty of Informatics was founded in 2008, opened in the academic year 2008/09.[14] It offers a course in applied informatics.[15]

Institutes

Institutes of the School include:

List of rectors

The rector is the university's highest officer, elected among the faculty by all the members of the academic senate.
