Pailan Arrows is a football club is based in Kolkata, India. Founded in 2010 under a different name, it is owned and managed by the All India Football Federation and Pailan Group. The club, which started playing at the Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi, was set up in order to provide regular first team playing opportunities to youngsters and with a target of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Pailan Arrows were given direct entry to play in India's top division, I-League, after Mahindra United from Mumbai was disbanded.[1] On June 15, 2011 the All India Football Federation announced that they have sold Indian Arrows sponsorship to Pailan Group and that the team will move to Kolkata. The 2010-11 I-League season was Indian Arrows's first ever season. Before the I-League season, they played in the 2010 Federation Cup. Indian Arrows played against Dempo SC, ONGC FC and JCT FC in the group stage. They were knocked out after finishing third out of four teams in Group C with only one win. On 3 December 2010 Indian Arrows played their first ever I-League match against Chirag United, a 2-1 loss. Lalrindika Ralte scored the club's first goal.
In Round 17 they lost the match to Churchill Brothers SC 2-1 with goal being scored by Jeje Lalpekhlua. [3] In Round 19 Jeje Lalpekhlua scored the first hat-trick in Arrows history against FC Air India, he scored 4 goals in 5-2 victory.
Indian Arrows won their first match against FC Air India and then they won against HAL SC, but the team also suffered heavy defeats but soon managed to gel and finish the season in 10th place.
In the last match of the season they won against a century old Mohun Bagan AC 5-4 with Jeje Lalpekhlua scoring a hatrick.
On August 8, 2011 it was announced that the Indian Arrows would change its name to Pailan Arrows for sponsorship reasons. It was also announced by the AIFF that Pailan Arrows will not be relegated in 2011/2012 I-league season, but if they are in the position relegation then the team above them will face relegation into 2012 I-league.
The official crest of Pailan Arrows is the Pailan Group logo but instead of Pailan Group it says Pailan Arrows.
To resemble the Indian national football team, Pailan Arrows will wear White for their home games and Blue for their away games.
The stadium for Pailan Arrows is Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. The stadium has a capacity of 120,000.
