Padmasri Dr. B.V Raju Institute Of Technology (BVRIT) is an engineering college established in 1997 in Vishnupur, Andhra Pradesh, India. BVRIT is affiliated to the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) and accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). It is one of the educational institutes of the Sri Vishnu Educational Society. BVRIT has been ranked amongst the top 25 of all 550 Engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh. The founding chairman of the Sri Vishnu Educational Society is Sri K.V. Vishnu Raju.

History

Padmabhushan Dr. B.V. Raju is the founder and chairman of the Dr. BV Raju Foundation and the Dr. BV Raju Institute of Technology. Two campuses have been established: one at Narasapur in Medak (Dist) in 1997, where an engineering college has been set up called Dr. BV Raju Institute of Technology, and the other at Bhimavaram which includes a pharmacy school, a computer programming department, an engineering school for women and a dental college.

On 27 November 2004 the government of Andhra Pradesh established its first District Knowledge Center (DKC), also called Jawahar Knowledge Center(JKC) under the campus placement mission. It is governed by the Institute of Electronic Governance at the college campus and was inaugurated by the then chief minister Dr. Y S Raja Sekhara Reddy. The college DKC has been awarded the Best DKC for the year 2007.

Alumni Association

To build its network, and to keep a connection with its graduated students, BVRIT started an Alumni Association in 2002 called the BVRIT Alumni Association (BAA). In 2008 the BAA started its own website developed by CSIT 2008 matriculated students.

The logo of Padmasri Dr. BV Raju Institute Of Technology is a picture with "Gautama Buddha sitting under the Banyan Tree" and "Sraddhavan Labhathe Gnanam" written above the picture, which means "A man can attain Knowledge with concentration and discipline" and "Krushito Nasthi Durbhiksham" written below it, which means "Miseries can be driven out with hard work".

Campus

The campus is located 3 km from Narsapur and 50 km from Hyderabad and covers 110 acres (0.45 km2). The campus has three blocks : Main, Eastern (or Visvesvarayya) and Western (or Arya Bhatta).

Library

The central library covers 706 square metres and has a seating capacity of around 140. It hasaround 3000 titles and 29000 volumes. The college is a member of Sonnet, an A.P. Government "Society for networking for excellence in Technical education", and receives 230 online journals from Sonnet. BVRIT has access to its subscribed 12 international journals and 89 Indian journals and an electronic library where students can access books and journals from e-publications.

In 2001 the college started a Book Bank Scheme offering a complete set of text books to each student for the entire semester or academic year at a nominal rent.

Facilities

Students can stay in the campus, where girls and boys are accommodated separately. The hostels can accommodate 100 girls and 200 boys and further hostels are under construction. BVRIT provides quarters within the campus for its staff. The college has a health care facility which provides medical care for the staff and students. It has a qualified doctor who is available at all times on the campus and arranges regular medical checkups for the students and staff. BVRIT has air conditioned dining halls and a cafeteria called 'Daffodils'. The student committees decides the menus. There are fast food outlets in addition to the cafeteria.

The college has a 600 seat auditorium inaugurated by former president of India, Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. BVRIT has introduced a learning atmosphere through an e-classroom which is used to develop communication skills, in–team based projects and curriculum-prescribed course work.

The Ganesh Temple is located in the campus. An artificial lake and a boating club have been established where students and faculty members can take a boat ride.

BVRIT is located around 50 km from Hyderabad and runs 22 buses from in and around the city. It can also be reached by APSRTC buses from JBS and Balanagar. ATL (Assistive Technology Lab): It is the well source for innovation ideas implementing and developing the new technologies.And it is always available to the BVRIT family.It will improves the technical skills and research ideas.

Extra curricular activities

Sports

Sports at BVRIT are a part of the curriculum and the institute offers facilities for sports and games such as cricket, volleyball, basketball, lawn tennis, track and field events, etc. Indoor facilities include carroms, chess, table tennis, and badminton.

The college has JNT University cricket, volleyball, basketball and athletics teams. The Institute’s volleyball team has won the JNT University Volley Ball Tournament and the BVRIT cricket team were the runners up at the All India Cricket tournament played at BITS, Pilani in 2005.

BVRIT organises a five kilometer run every year from Daulthabad to the college campus for the students and the faculty. Prizes are given to the first three places in categories who complete the race.

Sprava

Sprava is a national level techno-environmental fest organized by the EEESTA (EEE Students Teacher's Association). It is a yearly event. It has events ranging from technical to casual events. It was first conducted in 2000. It was confined only to technical aspects until 2009, but from 2010, it has been made techno-environmental.

Annual events

As part of the Founders day celebrations, on 15 October every year, BVRIT organizes inter-college sports tournaments. It organises a blood donation camp within the campus and conducts social welfare programmes where the students, faculty and management donates clothes and distribute food to the surrounding remote villages.

Zealotz is a college cultural festival organised by the students every year, usually held in February. The students conduct Lan Games, cultural events, put up stalls and the JUKEBOX, which is a DJ event. The art gallery displays art works done by the students.

The day after the Zealotz fest is the college's annual day with cultural programmes, speeches and appreciation of the students.

Kalam's visit

Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam visited the college on 27 August 2007 and addressed the students. During his visit he inaugurated the 600 seat auditorium and the Sri Vishnu College of Pharmacy,
