PWV Megalopolis

The PWV Megalopolis (Pretoria-Witwatersrand-Vereeniging; union of Pretoria, Witwatersrand and Vaal Triangle) is the term referring to the contiguous urban centres adjoining each otherin the South African province of Gauteng. The term was first used to refer to an area in the now defunct Transvaal Province, during the apartheid era.

This organised megalopolis structure is currently under plans by the Gauteng Government and also occurs under the name Gauteng City Region. [1]

After the demise of apartheid in 1994, the name PWV was used for the newly established province which was soon thereafter renamed Gauteng.
