Kamalanathan s/o. P. Panchanathan (or YB Kamal by the people in his constituency), is the member-elect of the Parliament of Malaysia for the seat of Hulu Selangor in Selangor. He is a member of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) in the governing Barisan Nasional coalition.[1]

Kamalanathan was elected to Parliament in April 2010 in a by-election after the death of the incumbent member Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad. The by-election saw the seat shift from Zainal's opposition People's Justice Party to the Barisan Nasional. Kamalanathan was selected as the candidate for the Barisan Nasional after the MIC sought to field veteran politician Datuk G. Palanivel but Barisan Nasional's leaders wanting a less-known candidate.[1]
