Oxford United Stars played in the Derry and District League and numerous local cups and competitions for a number of years, but in 1978 the club was selected to compete in the Northern Ireland Intermediate League. Northern Ireland World Cup 1986 squad-member, David Campbell, played with the club in his youth. Oxford has brought many quality players through its academy including Peter Hutton , Eamon Doherty , Gavin Melaugh , Stuart King , Tommy McCallion , Eddie McCallion , Danny Lafferty , Mark Scoltock & Adam Clarke.
In 1966 the club adopted the black and blue strips, similar to that of Inter Milan. These colours remain synonymous with Oxford United.
Oxford United Stars entered the IFA Intermediate League in 2004, but failed to obtain a place in the IFA Championship which replaced that league in 2008. Instead, the club competed in the IFA Interim League during 2008-09. It failed again to gain a place in the Championship in 2009 and dropped back to the Northern Ireland Intermediate League in which it had played prior to 2004. The reserve team competes in the Derry and District League Premier Division and the most senior youth team competes in the First Division of the Sunday Morning League.
Oxford United Youth Academy is fronted with their MINI SOCCER CENTRE . The Centre was the brain child of the Oxford Chairman Noel Crampsey. Players aged from 4 – 11 years old attend . Oxford run this on a Saturday morning as an introduction to all new players and any players from the age of 8 who show good progress will be asked to attend mid week squad training. Oxford have a habit of playing their younger teams at older age group to help them progress quicker which has been evident mostly at under 8 , under 9 & under 10 . The first team to progress from the Mini Soccer Centre is the Current Under 15 (1996) squad. They play in the Elite Section of the National League . However their biggest achievement was winning the Scotland International Cup 2009 without conceding a goal. Another fantastic success for the Centre was the NW League Foyle Cup 2010 winning team had no less than 15 Oxford players in the squad, with Oxford captain Caolan O Donnell scoring the winner in the final. Many of the coaches who had coached in the mini soccer centre have now moved on to the National League and Derry & District Youth League. However fortunately for Oxford they have Paul Concannon, Kevin Heaney, Emmett McCallion, Les Masterton, Noel Crampsey (JNR), David Armstrong, Rory Kehoe and Eamon Wilkinson to see through the next wave of talent with the Centre still going from strength to strength.
This year will see Oxford entering three teams in the National League Under 15 (1996), Under 14 (1997), Under 13 (1998). All 3 of the Teams will play in the elite sections .
