Ovenden is a village in the county of West Yorkshire, England, located next to Boothtown and Illingworth and about 1 mile from Halifax town centre.

Ovenden had a railway station, originally on the Halifax and Ovenden Junction Railway line. The station was closed in 1955.

The village's rugby league team, Ovenden RLFC, competes in the National Conference League.

Schools include The Ridings School, a comprehensive secondary school which gained national notoriety as one of the worst schools in the UK. The school closed on 15 July 2009 and the building may be demolished.

Notable residents

During the 1970s and 1980s the village was the home of American boogie woogie and blues pianist Champion Jack Dupree. A bronze plaque has been commissioned in his memory.
