Otukpo is a town in Benue State, Nigeria located in the middle belt. Otukpo is the headquarters of the Otukpo Local Government Area. It was the headquarters of the former Idoma Province, and remains an important town in Idomaland, the area mainly populated by the Idoma speaking tribe, though with numerous local dialects spoken in the diverse reaches of Idoma land. Idoma language is the umbrella lingua. It is the seat of His Royal Highness the Och' Idoma, the Paramount Chief of the Idomas. Senator David Mark comes from Otukpo.Chief B.O Attah come from otukpo and also a prominent otukpo son,died in 1989.He had a lot of business which include otukpo hotel & federal hotel & host of other businesses in otukpo before he died.

Transport

It is served by a train station on the national railway network as well as numerous bus and taxi services such as Benue Links, Ageshi Transport, Pleasure Travels, Calculux, Ifesinachi to name just a few which travel to every major city in Nigeria daily.

The most prominent son of Otukpo never to be forgotten, was chief Augustine Alechenu,who was the mayor of Otukpo.During his lifetime, he brought Otukpo into prominence by bringing electricity, pipe borne water, telephone,roads,schools and recreational facilities like the first tennis court in Idomaland.He educated very prominent sons of Idoma, including chief B.O. Attah.
