Okija

Okija is a town in Ihiala LGA, Anambra State in Nigeria. It is home to those who fought the white people that came to take the land of Igbos in the oolden days. Okija, the eldest town in Ihiala local government area, and one of the biggest towns in igbo land. Okija is home of so many notable great Nigerians, amongs them are Ben Oyido ( Director of Central Bank of Nigeri), Nze Sullivan Akachukwu Nwankpo (adviser to Goodluck Jonathan, President of Nigeria), Obijackson, Mmadu Jude Egozor (the author of WHO IS A BORN AGAIN), just to maintion but a few. Okijians believes in God Almighty firmly, even though Okija is also the home of former Okija shrine, which is dedicated now to Jesus Christ as the only God for all Okija people.

The shrine gained infamy in Nigerian media in 2004 after Anambra state police raided it and found 50 decomposing or shrunken bodies and 20 human skulls within the compound's premises; over 30 maintainers of the shrine were arrested in connection with the discovery, and other nearby shrines were raided afterwards. It was discovered that the bodies were poisoned with chemicals, and that the priests had taken the property of the victims from their homes and shared in the loot.
