OL!

OL! Azerbaijan Youth Movement (Azerbaijani: OL! Azərbaycan Gənclər Hərəkatı) is a liberal Azeri youth movement based in Baku, Azerbaijan^[1]. OL! is Azerbaijani for BE!

The leading principles of the movement are modernity, non-violence and tolerance.^[2]

Mission and activities

The movement is particularly popular amongst Azerbaijani students from various universities. OL! accounted more than 300 members in 2008.^[3]

Recently OL! has been implementing various flashmobs in order to commemorate the founder of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, Mammed Amin Rasulzade and his ideas.^[4][5]

The movement is engaged in several social and political missions such as:^[6]

• Establish independently thinking youth
• Encourage the active participation of youth in social processes and to increase their affect on social life
• Help youth to understand and protect their rights
• Develop a more independent and responsible youth
• Adapt youth to the modern standards of globalizing world
• Help youth in meeting their cultural, scientific and other non-material demands

The main social activities include:^[7]

• Organization of debates on different topics
• Organization of sport contests
• Carrying out ecological events (cleaning the streets, preserving the nature)
• Conducting seminars, roundtable discussions and trainings
