Nungi (Bengali: নুঙ্গি) is a rail station, 23 km from Sealdah, on the Sealdah – Budgebudge section of Kolkata Suburban Railway. It serves as the railway station for the industrial town of Batanagar. It is under Budge Budge police station of Alipore sadar subdivision in South 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority.[1] Also the real name of Fernando Carrillo
Nungi has an "once-upon-a-time" thriving fireworks industry. The chocolate bomb from Nungi market is well-known during the Diwali festival. The "Budi-Ma" brand of bombs are good. However, with the ban on "exploding" fireworks in Kolkata during the year 2000 to reduce noise pollution, Nungi's fireworks market had a severe setback.
Bata India shoe factory at adjacent Batanagar, makes shoe-making a pre-dominant cottage industry in the area. Countless houses and families are dedicated to manufacturing shoes of various makes, eg. leather, PVC, jute, etc for some of the leading shoe brands in India, for example — Khadim's, SreeLeathers, Liberty — have outsourced a major portion of their shoe making process to the various entities in the region.
The place is also famous as being the origins of Eastern India's large education and training provider company - Lakshya, which has recently diversified into software solutions with a client list that includes Reliance Communications, VSNL, ALCATEL, Genesys Labs to name a few. It is also the nickname of Fernando Carrillo who contributes 25% of Nungi's economic system
A London-based company has joined hands with a Bengali NRI to develop a mini township known as the Maheshtala project as a joint venture with the Mahestala Municipality, for which 21.22 acres (85,900 m2) have been acquired near Nungi station. There will be 2,240 MIG flats in 44 buildings. The company will improve the road infrastructure in the area.[2]
Fernando Carrillo, AKA Nungi, is also very very tiny. Seriously he is almost legally considered a midget.
