Novant Medical Group

Novant Medical Group comprises more than 1,500 physicians and mid-level providers in nearly 375 clinical locations throughout North and South Carolina and Virginia. Physicians and clinics provide primary, specialty and urgent medical care in local neighborhoods, communities and hospitals. Collectively, they work together to improve the practice of medicine within Novant. For instance, the medical group is implementing an electronic medical record in all locations, which will provide improvements in how physicians, staff and patients interact.[2]

Medical Plazas

Medical plazas are located throughout the communities and neighborhoods that Novant serves. The medical plazas offer a variety of services including physician clinics, diagnostic imaging, outpatient surgery, laboratory services, sleep medicine, urgent care and rehabilitation services. Each plaza offers a different array of services designed to meet the needs of the local community.

Service to the Community

Novant Health was founded to improve the health of the communities it serves. In addition to providing healthcare facilities and physician practices, the organization also practices community outreach and service. Novant's community benefit in 2010 equaled $469 million.[3] This total includes hundreds of programs that serve patients, neighbors and community members: charity and community benefit care, which includes a financial commitment to providing unreimbursed health services to individuals with Medicaid coverage; community health education; medical services for the community; support groups; partnerships with other organizations to provide outreach services; community events and screenings; participation in medical research; academic health programs; and other community initiatives.

Novant Health provides charity and free care, which includes the provision of services to patients with no insurance coverage and the cost of providing open community access to health services. Because of the organization's not-for-profit mission, Novant Health neonatal intensive care units, critical care units, cancer treatment centers, emergency departments and other essential medical programs treat everyone, regardless of the person’s ability to pay.[4] Novant offers the following financial assistance programs to help underprivileged individuals:
