Notopleuron

The notopleuron (plural notopleura) is a region on an insect thorax. They are used in characterizing species, particularly in the Family Diptera (true flies). The notopleuron is a thoracic pleurite (a sclerite is a hardened or sclerotized plate and those on the pleuron are called pleurites) situated at the end of the transverse suture of Diptera.
