Norconsult is Norway's and one of Scandinavia's largest multidisciplinary engineering and design consultancies. The company was founded in 1929, and has its headquarters in Sandvika, just outside Oslo, Norway. Norconsult has about 1850 employees, of which about 400 work outside of Norway. The company offers advice within the following business areas: buildings and property, energy, environment, industry, oil and gas, risk management, planning, transport and water.
In addition to its 39 offices in Norway, Norconsult has offices in the following countries: Denmark, Sweden, Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa, Lao PDR, Thailand, Philippines and Chile. The company works on projects in about 50 countries worldwide every year.
In 2007 the company reported itself to the National Authority for Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Environmental Crime in Norway after internal audits. The Oslo District Court handed down sentences for 3 Norconsult-employees for having aided corruption (medvirkning til korrupsjon) — a six months prison sentence (two months suspended), a 90 days prison sentence (suspended), and a 60 days prison sentence (suspended) were handed down on July 15,2011.[1]
The company (which had been charged together with 3 of its employees) was acquitted, while the court noted that "there is no doubt that the bribes totalling around 1 000 000 Norwegian kroner were effected for furthering the company's interests".[1]
