Nohar is a city and a municipality in Hanumangarh district in the Indian state of Rajasthan.

Geography

Nohar is located at .[1] It has an average elevation of 186 metres (610 feet). Nohar is known for its history, old hawelies and poets.

Language

Bagri, a dialect of Rajasthani language, is spoken by the majority of population. Punjabi, Hindi, Sindhi, English, and Urdu are also in use in this tehsil. A little influence of Haryanvi language can also be noticed here because of the familiar relationships of the people of Nohar with citizens of Sirsa district Haryana situated nearby.[2]

Temples & Mosques

The famous Gogamadi temple is also in Nohar tehsil. Thousands of people come on a pilgrimage to Gogamedi and Gorakh-Tila. Surya Bhavan temple is a very old and famous temple, as is Sindhi Mandir. The recently-built Baba Shyam Mandir temple is an example of good architecture. The nearby Mataji temple in Pallu has strong faith of resident of Nohar and nearby. The Bhadrakali Mataji Temple at Bhookrka, an ancient shrine, is 5 km away from Nohar towards Rawatsar. Gurudwara Shri Kabootar-Sahib and Sahwa-Sahib are very old and very famous. It is said that Guru Govind Singh visited the village and thus Sahwa Gurudwara is and village is called Sahwa-Sahib. The Johad (Pond) in Sahwa-Sahib has historical importance and faith among sikhs. kandoi mandir is also famous temple it is opreted by pandit mohan lal chomal (chunni kaka) aamar nath dera is a oldest temple in jogi aasan, nohar. There is also a temple in Nohar Tehsil known as "Malla Baba Mandir" where People come from Distant Villages. This temple was established by chachan community. Maliyoon ka mohalla hanuman mandir is also very old and famous mandir.mavriya ji temple wh.1 nohar near hanuman temple and gosahala is also there. There are also 12 mosques in which old mosque is kaji mosque in mohalla bhanipura which built before 200 year old and here is a big madarsa jamia tul hind al-Arabia noorul islam, it is established in 1982 president of madarsa is moulana Mohammad yunus mazahiri serve this madarsa now. In other madarsa is name darul uloom mohammadia.Johde wale hanuman ji is also very famous temple. Newly built Karni Mata & Sai Baba temples are also very famous. The great Bihani family is also belong to Nohar, this family did a great job in devlopment of Nohar. The first municipal board chairman of Nohar was Late Pandit Sh. Bajrang lal ji chomwal. The Gaushala of Nohar is one of biggest in Rajasthan.

There are many educational institutions including a large number of schools and colleges. Narbada Devi Bihani gov. college is one of the oldest colleges in Rajasthan and it is also one of the several gifts to Nohar from the famous Bihani family.

Colleges

Nohar is an emerging town in terms of higher education. The only government degree college in the Hanumangarh district is situated in Nohar. Before 2003, there was only one college, Narbada Devi Bihani Govt. College. Gargi Kanya Mahavidyalaya was founded in 2003 to promote female education. It is counted as the leading institution in the field of Girls' Education. Two more colleges, Nohar Degree College and Bal Vikas Mahavidhyalaya, have also been created in the area. For those seeking a technical education, there are two industrial training institutes and two polytechnic colleges.

Infrastructure

Railways

Nohar is connected to the neighbouring state of Haryana and other parts of state through a metre gauge railway track. The nearby stations are Hanumangarh, Bhadra, Gogamedi and Ellanabad (Haryana). Recently the work has been started for an upgrade of the existing metre gauge track to broad gauge track under Project Unigauge. Passenger trains are available for nearby areas along with a few express trains. In recent years people have raised their demands to connect the nearby town of Rawatsar to Nohar through the rail system along with the extension of Ratangarh-Sardarshar railway link to Nohar.

Roadways

Nohar has a good network of roads. It is just 40 km away from the mega highway connecting Kishangarh (Ajmer) to Hanumangarh. Apart from it, it is well connected to neighbouring areas through state highways. State Highway 36 connects Nohar to Sahwa and Bhadra on either side. One more highway, maintained by the Border Roads Organisation, connects it to the nearby town of Rawatsar and the mega highway. Bypass roads are being built on either sides of the town to avoid traffic congestion. Nohar has a well equipped bus stand where buses of the state road transport corporation ply regularly to different parts of the state and the neighbouring state of Haryana. Private operators also conduct tours from Nohar. Daily sleeper coach buses are also available for Delhi, Jaipur, Bikaner, Haridwar and adjoining areas from Nohar.

Telecom

Many major telecom operators have set up their networks in the town, such as Aircel, Airtel, BSNL, Idea, MTS, Reliance (CDMA and GSM), Tata (CDMA and GSM) and Vodafone. Broadband services are also available by the state-run telecom company BSNL.

Public representation

Nohar comes under Churu Lok Sabha constituency of Indian Parliament represented by Ramsingh Kaswan of the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the State Legislative Assembly it is a separate constituency represented by Abhishek Matoria of the BJP. In recent years the people have raised their demands to give Nohar a district headquarter status. The new district would include Rawatsar, Nohar, Bhadra tehsils of Hanumangarh and Taranagar tehsil of Churu Districts.
