Noel Swaranjit Sen was Director General of Police (DGP) in the state of Andhra Pradesh in south India. His predecessor was S.R. Sukumara[1].

Personal history

Noel did his schooling from the The Doon School. Among his contemporaries were the late Rajiv Gandhi and Aroon Purie of India Today. He is also an alumnus of St. Stephen's College, Delhi (1967). His contemporaries there include Kabir Bedi and Kapil Sibal.

His family includes eldest daughter Sharon - a civil servant who is currently in New Delhi with her husband and son, Kareena - married with 5 children in the USA, Montgomery (Monty) - a investment banker who lives and works in Gurgaon- NCR and Stephen - a lawyer married with a son and daughter, living in Hyderabad.

Professional background

He earlier had a short spell in the Indian Army and then joined the police force. He was Superintendent of Police in Kurnool district. For a long period, he was the Director-General of Fire Services before being elevated to the position of Home Secretary in 2004, succeeding Bharat Chandra. This was during the Chandrababu Government.

After a brief period, he became the Director-General of Police. Setting controversies aside, he spoke out to his police community that his selection was not based on any undue influence but on pure merit.[1].

He is a professional policeman. An expert in tackling Naxalism, he has been invited by other states torn with the Naxal menace.[2]
