Nira (R.S.) is a town located in Maharashtra 80 km from Pune.[1] It is named after the Nira River.

Nira is situated on the banks of River Nira. Town is situated at the border of Pune district and Satara district and also at the border of Purandar, Baramati, Phaltan, Khandala tehasil.
Politically Nira is very sensitive. Population of Nira town is cosmopolitan.
Around Nira, there is plenty of agricultural land. Plenty of water is available around Nira and in Nira. Nira town is in between two canals (named Nira Right and Nira Left) and the Nira River. Hence, agriculture is its main activity. It is famous for jaggery and onion and at one time was the leading manufacturing town for the same. Fig, custard apple, pomegranate, guava, sweet lime, and grapes are major fruits available here. Sugar cane, wheat, bajara, maize, and jawar are major farm crops.
There are some industries around Nira. There is one sugar factory located at Someshwar near Nira. One chemical factory is also present around Nira. There is one concrete pipe (cement pipe / R.C.C. pipe) manufacturing unit. Nira have a nice industrial grown there is Angha Ice factory in Nira. The transportation facilities are also good the prominent transporter is Aarti Transport which is well famous in transportation of IMFl and ENA.
In recent times, Nira has seen lot of development in the field of medicine as well; there are doctors of various specialties who give treatment to needy patients from all walks of life.
Due to Nira railway station, it is easy to access. However, long route trains don't have stop at Nira. Nira is an important station on the railway route to Miraj and Kolhapur. Frequency of state transport is sufficient.
Roads around Nira are village road and not as good as Highway road.
