Lego Ninjago (stylized as NINJAGO) Masters of Spinjitzu is a 2011 Lego theme. It uses elements from the previous Ninja series. There are several changes from the previous series. These include the removal of the Shogun and Bandits, and the introduction of the Skeleton Army. Also noticeable is the inclusion of vehicles which imply a more modern time setting than the Feudal Japan setting from the previous incarnation.

Plot

Long before time had a name, Ninjago was created by the first Spinjitzu Master using the four Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu; the Scythe of Quakes, the Nunchucks of Lightning, the Shurikens of Ice and the Dragon Sword of Fire. Weapons so powerful, no one but the first master could possess them all at once. For decades, Ninjago was balanced with good and evil, and peace was maintained under the watchful eyes of the master. When he passed away, his two sons swore to protect the weapons, but the eldest was consumed by darkness and wanted to possess the weapons for his own nefarious purposes. A battle between brothers broke out, and the eldest was struck down into the Underworld. Peace returned, and the younger brother hid the four weapons, but knowing his brothers relentless ambition, he placed a guardian that would protect the weapons. And, in fear of his own demise, he created a map for a poor blacksmith, which was hidden with care. The older brother is Lord Garmadon, the younger brother Sensei Wu, and the blacksmith the father of the main character, Kai. Now Garmadon has taken command of the undead legions of the Underworld and is searching the land of Ninjago for the four Golden Weapons to exact his revenge on his brother, Wu. Now Sensei has gathered four brave ninja; Kai, Master of Fire, Cole, Master of Earth, Zane, Master of Ice, and Jay, Master of Lightning. Together, they must train to defeat their skeletal foes and find the golden weapons, and eventually defeat Lord Garmadon.

Music

Official theme song 'The Weekend Whip' was written by Jeppe Riddervold aka Zack Edgar Jones and Erin Chapman. The score was composed by Michael Kramer and Jay Vincent. Musical director of the show is Jeppe Riddervold.

Characters

Minifigures for the Ninjago theme are broken up into two factions, the human Heroes and the Skeleton Army. Unlike the previous Ninja Collection, each Minifig (with the exception of the Skeleton Troops) has a specific name and a distinctively unique appearance.[1] This series focuses on the great weapons of the four mystical powers and the mastery of Spinjitzu.[2] This series also introduced Spinners that the minifigures could be placed on for battles. There is also is a card game that accompanies the spinners.

Adaptions

On the same day as the release of the original 17 sets a board game from the Lego Games theme was released in the United Kingdom using elements from the Ninjago theme.[43] A Ninjago film, entitled "Lego Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu" aired in the United States on Cartoon Network on January 14, 2011. American band The Fold performed the theme song, The Weekend Whip. It is split into two episodes, Way of the Ninja and King of Shadows. The movie served as a pilot for a Lego Ninjago series set for 2011. The series is titled Lego Ninjago: The Series.[44] A video game, entitled Lego Battles: Ninjago, was released on April 12, 2011, on the Nintendo DS. It is the sequel to the 2009 game Lego Battles and was developed by Hellbent Games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games. A Ninjago themed world is also being added to the massively multiplayer online game Lego Universe.[45] A virtual world called Lego Ninjago Online is set to release in October 2011.
