History

Nickelodeon premiered in November 1998 in Malta as a 12/7 feed. On Christmas Eve 1998, Nickelodeon came to Romania airing 14/10 in Romanian. Later, Nickelodeon debuted in the Czech Republic on February 10, 2010. Originally, all 3 countries shared Romania's website. In February, Nickelodeon Eastern Europe updated to a new version which broadcasts in Malta, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, and now in Slovakia, and Moldova.

In fall 2011, Nickelodeon HD and Nick Jr. will launch in the Romania and Czech Republic. In October, the Czech version of Nickelodeon HD began testing on satellite and is currently encrypted. TV providers are expected to add the channel to their line-up in the near future, along with an official launch. The SD feed currently broadcasts in letterbox picture format and is expected to switch to widescreen in the near future. On December 1, 2011, Nick Czech increased its video bitrate from 3,4 Mb/s to 5 Mb/s.

In November 2011, Nick Czech updated its graphics with new idents. Since November 25, 2011, Nick Czech has also started using 10-seconds long on-air bumpers with various characters to highlight what programming is coming up next.

The most frequently aired program on Nick Czech, like Nick UK, is SpongeBob - airing typically 11 times per day.

In February 2012, Nick Czech will get the new US look part of Nickelodeon Worldwide Refresh 2012. Nick Czech will also be changing to 16:9.
