New York State Route 397 (NY 397) is a short state highway in New York, running from the village of Altamont to the hamlet of Dunnsville within the town of Guilderland, in Albany County. NY 397 is a two-lane highway its entire length.

NY 397 begins at a four-way intersection, where NY 146 arrives from the south and exits to the east. CR 253 exits west; NY 397 exits north as Western Avenue. The route heads eastward, passing through downtown Altamont. Soon after, it turns to the north passing west of Bozenkill Park and soon after, Bozenkill Road. Route 397 crosses a creek and leaves Altamont, becoming known as Dunnsville Road. Soon after, it passes west of Orchard Green Golf Course and to the east of a large hill afterwards. Route 397 enters Dunnsville and terminates at U.S. Route 20.[3]
NY 397 was assigned to its current alignment as part of the 1930 renumbering of state highways in New York and has not had any major changes since.[1]
