Route 232 begins at Interchange 44 off Interstate 81. Just after the interchange, the highway turns northeastward along the Old Rome State Road. The highway then parallels I-81 until turning eastward at the intersection with County Road 62. Route 232 then crosses under 81 and intersects with County Road 64, which parallels afterward. When the highway curves to the north, it begins to parallel another county road, which intersects and becomes concurrent with 232. The county road, designated as Road 65, leaves soon after and Route 232 continues through the North Country, passing fields and homes.[4]
The highway continues on a stead direction before terminating at an intersection with US 11.[4]
NY 232 was assigned ca. 1962 following the completion of Interstate 81 between Syracuse and Watertown and has not been altered since.[1][2]
The entire route is in Watertown, Jefferson County.
