It is a upazila of Pirojpur District. Swarupkathi or Shoroopkaathi (Bangla: স্বরূপকাঠী) is the popular name of this upazila. Nesarabad is named after a famous Islamic scholar Maulana Nesar Uddin (Rh). He was the founder of Shorshina Madrassa, a famous Islamic seminary in Barisal Division. Mierhat and Inderhat are famous business Centres. Swarupkathi (Nesarabad) is stand on the bank of Shandha river.
Swarupkathi is connected by road to Kawkhali Upazila and Banaripara. It is a famous business center.
