Neil Olshey (born January 10, 1965) is General Manager & Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Los Angeles Clippers. He was named GM on March 9, 2010 upon the firing of former Clippers GM and Head Coach Mike Dunleavy, Sr.[1] He joined the Clippers as Director of Player Personnel prior to the start of the 2003–04 season and became an assistant coach prior to the start of the 2004–05 season. Prior to the start of the 2008–09 season, Olshey was elevated to the position of Assistant General Manager.[2] Olshey has overseen the drafting of such talented players as Blake Griffin as well as the draft day trade to draft promising rookie Eric Bledsoe.
Prior to his roles with the Clippers, Olshey served as Director of Player Development for SFX Sports Group, Inc., where he created, organized and conducted NBA pre-draft training camps that produced 15 NBA lottery picks, 25 first-round selections and 57 current NBA players.[3] He was also an assistant coach at Artesia High School (Lakewood, California), where he coached future college and NBA player Jason Kapono. A graduate of Le Moyne College, Olshey originally sought to become a professional actor following his graduation from college, and moved to New York City to pursue this career. "He appeared in several television commercials, print ads and had roles on All My Children, One Life to Live, and Loving. Eventually, he made his way to Los Angeles, where he tested for a lead role on the popular soap opera General Hospital."[3]
