Nagwa is a village with a population of 8,000 and 1,300-acre (5.3 km2) in the Ballia district in eastern part of Uttar Pradesh in India. A large percentage of the population consists of high caste Brahmins. This village is 6 km east of Ballia District Headquarters close to the River Ganges. It is supposedly the birthplace of historic hero Mangal Pandey. After independence of India many idols of martyr were placed in ballia. One such is there near a school which is named after this hero in that village.

Mangal Pandey, widely regarded in India as the First Martyr in India's First War of Independence in 1857, is supposed to have been born and brought up in this village. There are, however, some accounts that contribute Mangal Pandey's birthplace to Surhupur village of Faizabad’s Akbarpur Tehsil.

Narendra pandey, hemendra, shiv ji pathak etc. gov. recognise a university named after mangal pandey which is under construction.
